Well-being and health by nature

Several studies highlight the essential role played by plants, trees and even the flowers around us on our health. Find out what nature has to offer and how to get the most from it.

Trees, flowers, the sun: they surround us on a daily basis, yet we cannot imagine how important they play a role in our life. Moods, behaviors and emotions depend on the presence of nature. Studies specify this relation and its conditions (what is called environmental psychology). Because yes, well-being, health and nature are linked.

Well-being and health by nature

Nothing is like the relaxing sound of a waterfall. Do you take vitamin G? No? Well it’s a shame, you should, because it’s good for physical and mental health, for the planet and for future generations. In short, vitamin G is the vitamin of life! When the Anglo-Saxons speak of vitamin G (Green Vitamine in English), which, of course, does not exist, they are referring to the essential role played by plants, trees and flowers that surround us, and the benefits they provide.

Well-being, health and nature are linked!

The influence of nature on our well-being

Man, especially during the past century, has considerably freed himself from the constraints dictated by nature and has moved away from it. Unfortunately this modern life has distanced us from nature, with all the pollution, waste disposal, online influence and other hectic schedules within our daily lifes.

But in all discretion, many of these natural elements that surround us affect our social interactions and our physical and mental well-being. Environmental psychology is a discipline that focuses on how an individual’s immediate physical environment can affect their psychological functioning, physical and mental well-being and behavior.

We can discover some of the examples from the experts about why nature does us good: the benefits of green plants at work, the emotions linked to flowers, the effects of the sun on our mood and our behavior, all are real.

What is happiness? How can we access it? The concept of happiness varies according to cultures, mood, and it is very difficult to define it. But we can see how happiness influences our life; we can talk about marriage, money, work, friendship…

The quest for happiness is the source of almost all of our behavior as humans. Happiness is not only the result of a prosperous, long and fulfilling life; it is very often the direct cause. Being happy positively influences all areas of our life: health, social relationships, love life, professional success, etc.

What is happiness? How can we access it? The concept of happiness varies according to cultures, mood, and it is very difficult to define it. The pursuit of happiness guides our actions and our thoughts, but it is sometimes misguided. Happiness is not intrinsic to wealth or power but is found where we do not seek it … This is what the experts wish to share. Why do happy people live longer lives? Read the interesting fable below.

A small stonecutter lived peacefully at the foot of a large mountain from which he detached pieces of rock to build houses.

He was satisfied with his lot. Until one day … he went to a wealthy lord of the area to fulfill an order. He then discovered the wonders of a life of luxury and abundance: a sumptuous residence, silk clothes, refined dishes, graceful concubines, etc. From that moment, the splendors he saw prevented him from sleeping. His life now appeared joyless to him. “Ah, if I were rich,” he lamented, “how happy would I be!”

The mountain genius heard his complaint: “Your wish has been heard, stonemason, so be rich and therefore be happy!” No sooner said than done. Rich merchant he became and he was satisfied with his lot. Until the day when … he saw the king pass in his golden palanquin, each bending in his path. What was his wealth worth next to the power of a king and the admiration that all had in him? Ah, if I were king,” he sighed, “how happy I would be!” ”

And the mountain genius heard his complaint: “Your wish has been heard, merchant, so be king and therefore be happy!” No sooner said than done. Revered king he became and was satisfied with his lot. Until one day … it happened that the sun imposed its fiery and unforgiving rays on the country. As king as he was, he could not protect himself from the heat and oppose the power of this master of heaven.

Annoyed, he exclaimed: “What is the throne and riches for, if the sun is more powerful than me!” Ah if I were sun, how happy I would be! Again, the mountain genius heard his complaint: “Your wish has been heard, king, so be sunny and be happy!” No sooner said than done. Almighty sun it became. He darted his rays on everything that lived: rich and poor, weak and powerful, plants and animals. All were subject to his power and all were drying up. And he was satisfied with his lot. Until the day when… he saw that the mountain still stood. Immutable.

Angry, he cried out, “What’s the use of power if you can resist me?” Ah, if I were the mountain, how happy I would be! Again, the mountain genius heard his complaint: “Your wish has been heard, sun, so be mountain and therefore be happy!” No sooner said than done. Immortal mountain he became. And he was satisfied with his lot, until the day when … he felt something itch his foot. And that’s when he saw, there, below, at the very bottom, a very small stone cutter busy cutting loose pieces of rock to build the houses …

Upgrading Your Diet to Combat Addiction Withdrawal

How to Cope with Addiction Withdrawal

Addiction withdrawal is the first path to recovery. The road is not easy but it’s a journey that you have to take to get rid of your addiction. Getting sober will also take time and requires discipline and dedication. But after passing this trial, you will once again regain control of your life.

In order to cope with addiction withdrawal, you need to know what it is. It’s a condition where your mind and body react to the absence drug or alcohol from your system. There are two categories, psychological or emotional and physical. Here are some of the popular ways to combat addiction withdrawal.

Water is Good for You

Drinking water keeps you from dehydrating. But most importantly it forces your body to expel all the remaining drugs or alcohol out of your system.

Take it Slow

large During the withdrawal period, the body is subjected to either physical or mental strain or both. To speed up your recovery, you will need to take it easy and get plenty of rest. This can help you brighten your mood and remove further stress from your body. Here are a number of things you can do to cope up with the addiction withdrawal.

Take Regular and Healthy Meals

Eating healthy meals regularly is crucial to your recovery. But you may have some initial difficulty fulfilling this part. It’s normal to feel nauseous during the first early part of the withdrawal.

Seek a Holistic Approach

Alternative medicine and treatments centers like Taylor Recovery Center can alleviate your withdrawal symptoms. This is much better than letting more drugs enter your system, read more about it here: http://www.taylorrecovery.com/pain-pill-addiction-treatment/

Vitamins and Supplements Can Help

If you cannot get all the vitamins and minerals you need from the food, then it is wise to take food supplements. This can help you cope up with the withdrawals while allowing your body to recover much quicker.

Relax and Take Spa Treatments

A spa treatment is another relaxing way to improve your mood and relief from the withdrawal stress.

Breathing Helps a Lot

During trying times, simple deep breaths can help you calm down and relax. Breathing exercises can remove or at least lower your levels of anxiety or mood swings.

Exercise Regularly

Exercises keep you fit but it can also help people on their road to sobriety. People who engage in vigorous physical activity usually get a natural “high”. This process is possible due to the endorphins that you release during the exercise.

Don’t Shut Out Your Loved Ones

Family, friends or people you love can lend emotional support during your withdrawal period. Medical professionals such as therapists can give the same support as well.

Stretch Several Times a Day

Always keep the habit of stretching several times a day. It can keep you relaxed and improves your blood circulation at the same time.

Ask Professional Advice or Help

Coping with addiction withdrawal is difficult but you don’t need to bear it alone. Don’t hesitate to ask for advice or help from medical professionals. They could provide you with ways on how to make the withdrawal process easier.

How to stay fit

Whatever it is that a person need to do to feel good about himself or herself, it is important to take account of what the impact is going to be in your life. There is no denying  that staying fit and healthy is associated with good self esteem. If you feel good about yourself and about what you do, your self esteem will automatically propel to great heights.

If you are concerned in gaining weight and possibly wasting off a good year or two of lost fat, there are certain things you can do to maintain that slender body and stay fit.

Watch Your Calories

If you are overweight, you need to make sure you reduce the calories you are taking in. As you have a lot of stored sugars in your body, it is capable of fueling you up throughout the day even if you stay on a strict 1,200 calorie diet.

There’s nothing wrong in counting calories. In fact, it is one of the best ways in controlling the food you eat. If you limit your daily calorie intake, you tend to be more conscious on the kind of food you put inside your body. The healthier it is, the less sugar it has.

Exercise, Exercise, Exercise.

No, you don’t have to go crazy on the gym.  If you are told by your doctor that you are overweight, you need to schedule a regular workout session in the gym. Always remember that excess weight can take its toll not only to your heart, but to your organs too. Your heart has to pump blood harder, your liver has to filter more, your kidneys had to do more work to keep your body clean.

If your weight on the other hand is normal, you can schedule your workout sessions every other day for an hour. If you wish to do it on a daily basis, you can do so by taking 30 to 45 minutes. If you are always on a time crunch, high intensity workout saves you a lot of time and it does wonder too!

Say No to Soda and Juice Concentrates

Have you tried cutting out soda entirely from your diet? Sugary drinks like your cola or your cranberry juice concentrates are not helpful to your body at all. All it does is add more sugar to your body – which then is converted to fat for storage. By simply eliminating these sugary drinks, you will notice a big difference on how you feel.

At first, it’ll seem like you’ve ran out of energy. It’s just your body sugar-detoxing! Give it a week or two and you should feel as light and energetic as ever!

Drink Black Coffee or Green Tea

Black coffee or green tea is very helpful in boosting your metabolism. Aside from the anti-oxidant benefits, the caffeine from black coffee and green tea can help boost your metabolism. This will help your body distribute the necessary energy throughout the day.

Hydrate Yourself

Drink plenty of water. Your body is 70% water. That is about the same amount it needs to optimally function. Make sure you drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. This will help you stay hydrated.

Get information about health

The more you know, the more you understand how your body functions, the more you can take the actions necessary to maintain a fit and healthy body. Check this guide about the lean belly breakthrough to learn other techniques to achieve your fitness goals and get a body you are proud of.

Stay Away from Fast Food

We all know how fattening the food are in fast food chains. They literally drop your burger patty in a pan-full of oil or grease. They add so many additives, flavorings and sodium. We don’t even know where their produce came from! Stay away from oily and starchy food. This means, eat less carbs, more greens.

It’s not that difficult at all. You will struggle for the first couple of weeks. But if you get the hang of it, you will enjoy a simple home-cooked healthy meal.

By following the tips given above, you will surely help keep yourself away from the culprit of weight gain. By doing so, you’ll feel good and look good.

The benefits of green coffee

In recent years green coffee bean extracts have become popular as a supplement for health-conscious people trying to control their weight. Indeed these supplements are among the most sought after in the category of Appetite control & suppressants supplements. This is in no small part due to this natural product being discussed on a famous TV show hosted by Doctor Oz.

Green coffee extracts can help you lose a few pounds. This is what Professor Ernst Edzart from the University of Exeter concluded on the basis of three clinical studies. Professor Ernst is a researcher who carefully and critically studies complementary and alternative medicine products and research results. We have long known that drinking coffee prevents obesity. What recent scientific research has shown is that an important component of coffee, chlorogenic acid, is probably responsible for this effect.

Chlorogenic acid is for the most part destroyed during the roasting of coffee beans, hence the fact that we are now interested in extracts of unroasted coffee beans (also called ‘green beans’) to fight against overweight situations. Note that the effect of green coffee bean supplements remains moderate: a loss of 2.5 kg over a period of 1 to 3 months can be expected. A sustainable weight loss is only possible if we radically change our eating habits. And for that matter, the focus should be on eating mostly nutritious foods.

Chlorogenic acid is a powerful natural antioxidant useful for delaing atheromatous plaque creation in the arteries and thus delaying the onset of cardiovascular disease. It also has a bactericidal role (kills bacteria) and a fungicidal role (kills fungi), plus it is antiviral. In addition, it is an antioxidant and an inhibitor of some esters which play a role in the development of tumors. So there is a long list of benefits for consuming this acid beyond the ones related to weight loss.

Green coffee has virtues similar to those of green tea. It is a diuretic so it is normal to lose weight from it and it is an excellent antioxidant. A 2009 study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that the chlorogenic acid content in green coffee is the cause of weight loss. This natural molecule decrease the absorption of sugars in the digestive system and accelerates the burning of fat. But beware, green coffee beans extract is not a diet or a miracle product, it must be taken in a timely manner, in addition to a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

It is not recommend for a person with heart problems because it is a powerful exciting substance, which can lead to experiencing stress or depression. In view of the ingredients in the beans, it is normal not to feel tired and even to feel fit, but these are only impressions. Stimulants that you swallow will take over your fatigue, but not solve the original problem. A sleep therapy would be more effective for that purpose.

The benefits of Omega-3 Fish Oil

Studies Show Omega-3 Fish Oil Provides Benefits Essential to Your Health.

Over the last ten years, we have seen countless vitamin and supplement fads appear as “the next big thing” in nutrition, only to see them disappear just as fast as they entered the market. Throughout this period, only a select few supplements have stood the test of time, the most recognizable, and most beneficial of which being Omega-3 Fish Oil.

Despite the many dreadful diseases and cancers that claim numerous lives each year, according to the World Health Organization, heart disease still ranks as the #1 cause of death throughout the entire world. Heart disease remains so deadly because so many factors can contribute to it, including outside influences such as smoking and not eating properly, and genetic makeup in the case that there is a history of heart-related illness in your family.

To help combat the negative influences on our heart health, the medical community has suggested for years that increasing the amount of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in one’s diet, which are found in fish, are extremely important in both preventing and managing heart disease.

The dilemma, of course, is that not everybody likes fish. So in order to give those who do not enjoy meals from the sea all of the benefits that come with eating foods rich in omega-3’s, companies began producing over the counter omega-3 fish oil supplements, as well as prescription fish oil medicines.

The reason that these products have remained so popular is simple: They work. Organisations such as The American Heart Association recommends consuming up to 3 grams of omega-3 fish oil each day, because of the following benefits:
– Lowered Blood Pressure,
– Reduction of triglycerides,
– Reduction in the chance of an abnormal heart rhythm,
– The slowing of plaque development around in the arteries,
– Reductions in the chances of both heart attack and stroke,
– Lessening the chance of sudden cardiac death in those currently suffering from heart disease.

Whilst health adults, including both men and women, and even pregnant women are highly recommended to use omega-3 fish oil, extra caution should be taken when it comes to children. Because of the “picky” diets that children tend to have, it may seem like a good choice to supplement their lack of omega-3 intake with omega-3 fish oil. However, this is still a controversial issue, as it remains unclear as to the proper dosage amount, as well as conflicting studies on whether omega-3 fish oil actually benefits children.

As always, it’s important to consult your physician when starting any new medical regimen, to make sure that you’re taking a dosage level that is consistent with your body’s needs. But after decades of successful research and use of omega-3 fish oil, the only real question remains is why you’re not using it?

Caffeine And Pregnancy

kardashian-pregnantAre caffeine and pregnancy really such a bad combination?

We hear so many different studies and ideas being promoted about caffeine by the media, so how do we know what’s true? Caffeine and pregnancies can be bad combinations in certain ratios. Although you do not have to cut caffeine from your diet completely, you should cut back on it to some extent.

Caffeine And Pregnancy Can Be Bad But Not Always. Having over 300 milligrams per day of caffeinated drinks and food can be harmful. This is approximately the amount you would get from two or three cups of coffee or six cans of soda.

When considering caffeine and pregnancy, do keep in mind, however, that the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee depends on the strength of the coffee.

You don’t have to cut caffeine completely out of your diet; you can still take trips to Starbucks and make your morning cup of Folgers or Maxwell House, but while you are pregnant you should be more careful.

If you are pregnant but drink coffee mostly for the smell in your house and feeling of warmth, you may want to choose a decaf version of your favorite coffee.

Decaffeinated coffee may not give you that extra kick start, but you will still get to feel that warmth and comfort from a morning cup of your favorite coffee blend.

Drinking coffee is one of my life’s greatest pleasures. There are a variety of reasons for my feelings on the subject. To some extent, I just love drinking coffees of all shapes and sizes. But on the other hand, I love the taste of the caffeine and I love the friendly, relaxed environment of coffee houses.

Drinking Coffees – The Caffeine Rush

In our busy lives, we often don’t get nearly as much sleep as we need, especially in college. I never started drinking coffee until I only slept two hours a night and studied (and played) for 22 hours a day. I began my addiction at a local coffee house much like Starbucks, where I drank coffee almost every day.

And it has continued over the years with my buying a coffee machine and drinking all brands such as Folgers, Millstone, or Maxwell House. I drink those coffees every day. Sometimes I drink decaf coffee, but I still love that caffeine rush.

Coffee Houses – Food, Fun, and More

Although I make drinks in own coffee machine, I still love going out and meeting friends at coffee houses every once in a while for a drink. The relaxing atmosphere makes it a great place to unwind after a long day.

At a coffee house, I get to have my all time favourite coffee drinks with none of the making. We all drink coffee for different reasons, but we all recognize this as one of our favourite things to do.

Anticancer food

eat-brocoliNo every food is made equal and some are better at reducing our risk of getting cancer. So here is a list of some of the best food to consume to protect yourself against this dreaded disease.

But first note that generally speaking having a fit and athletic body gives you better odds not to catch cancer. In particular the body is mostly made of muscles and adipose, in other words fat cells. An excess of adipose potentially leads to cancerous cells, so it is always a good idea to go to the gym on a regular basis and maintain a normal weight.

If you have problems losing kilos or if you want to make sure you have a well balanced input of nutrients, some natural supplements such as turmeric with bioperine can help you fight inflammation and an unhealthy lifestyle.

Regarding some healthy food to lower your risk, let’s start with grenade juice. Research has shown that it can lower the risk to get prostate cancer and maybe breast cancer as well. If you take it in addition to green tea, brocoli and curcumin, the study saw a decrease of 63% of PSA. PSA, ie prostate specific antigen, is a protein which concentration in the blood has a direct correlation with prostate cancer.

Talking about green tea, note that it should be prepared at less than 60 degrees, otherwise its main positive ingredient, Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a polyphenol, is destroyed. Also note that drinking very hot drinks is bad anyway, as it can lead to esophagus cancer. So make sure to drink your green tea warm, but not boiling hot. With respect to curcumin it is known to be an antioxidant with potentially anticancerous properties.

If you do not like tea, do not worry as coffee as also been shown by the faculty of medecine at Harvard to significantly lower the risk of prostate cancer, if you drink 4 to 6 cups per day. Another study assessed that it may also decrease the risk of breast cancer. If you prefer cold drinks, then tomato too has benefits versus prostate and breast cancer, so do not hesitate to indulge in fresh tomato juice.

Next in the vegetable section, brocoli, cabbage and all crucifers should be high on your list as they help prevent a number of cancers, such as pancreas, esophagus, colon, rectum and prostate. This is because some of their chemical components restrain the proliferation of cancerous cells, as well as restrict their migration to other organs.

Fish is a must eat, but do not eat any fish. Small fish are preferred to large fish, as they contain more omega-3 and less mercury. On top of the list are sardines, anchovies and herrings. Eat salmon as well, but not too much as too much omega-3 could lead to an increase of prostate cancer risk. Also pay attention to the provenance of the salmon you buy and avoid products from Norway, which was caught using too much pesticides and pollutants in their salmon farms. Scottish and Alaskan salmons on the other hand are still very clean. The fish to avoid most of the time are the big ones like tuna, which store of lot of polluted elements in their tissues.

Finally, last but not least, a few glasses of red wine every day is a good idea. As red wine contains a powerful antioxidant: resveratrol.

Things to Know About 5-HTP

fit-womanWith advancement of technology and science, innumerable medical supplements to natural nutrients for proper growth and development of the human body have come into being. The latest 5-HTP is essentially a chemical compound, which is produced within the human body naturally.

5-HTP is responsible for the production of serotonin. Serotonin is a highly important hormone and is associated with regulating human mood.

The hormone is also produced in a number of plants, naturally. In-depth research of this chemical had led to several findings that tend towards connection of this particular hormone to the process of suppressing appetite of human beings.

Apart from this, several other researches also suggest that the valuable hormone can even be utilized effectively in the procedure of treating the following:

In addition, supplements should always be consumed under proper guidance and tips by an expert. Dosages of supplements also vary on a number of considerations like health of the user, age of the user and many other factors that may require prior medical check up.

Working pattern of 5-HTP

The hormone is naturally produced from the tryptophan and eventually converts entirely into serotonin. The neurotransmitter is related to various powerful effects upon the human brain. Experienced medical personnel offer advice to take supplements of 5-HTP instead of supplements of serotonin.

This is because the former is able to access the brain from the stream of the blood that might lead to fatal consequences. With increased levels of serotonin in the bloodstream, hunger diminishes.

Safety factors associated with 5-HTP supplements

5-HTP hormone is produced under natural circumstances within the human body. This makes it quite natural to go for supplements of the hormone. However, it is not suggested to take long courses of such supplements. Rather, this supplement can prove to be effective for short durations. The supplement is also barred to be taken along with medication like anti-depressants etc, the composition is also not ideal to be taken by pregnant women.

Associated side effects

Medical advisors do not recommend 5-HTP supplements because of certain concerns related to the supplement. Many experience and further researches have shown that intake of 5-HTP supplements might trigger a threatening side effect known as the syndrome of eosinophilia myalgia.

It is still although unclear whether the effect is really triggered with consumption of 5-HTP supplements or due to any other kind of contamination or acting contaminant in the composition.

In addition, the composition also have potential to set off several other side effects including:

  • Stomach pain
  • Heartburn
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Muscular problems
  • Sexual problems
  • Drowsiness

Who can ideally look for 5-HTP supplements?

5-HTP supplements have undergone several tests and studies for over 30 years. As per clinical tests have proved, the composition is able to yield effective results in lowering calorie counts and thereby reducing weight of people. It is also effective to help people have a check upon their calorie intake, curbing a craving to eat greater volumes of carbohydrate. Research has shown that the equation is highly beneficial for people who constantly crave for food round the clock.

Effectiveness and ineffectiveness of 5-HTP

Like several other drugs, these supplements also have their effectiveness and related ineffectiveness. Tests and researches have tended to show that the drug is fruitful as an anti-depressant. However, it is recommended not to take the composition along with other anti-depressant drugs.

Apart from this, the drug is also having innumerable positive influence in improving fibromyalgia symptoms, which include:

  • Morning stiffness
  • Sleeplessness
  • Severe pain

On the other hand, the drug is highly incompatible to have any positive effect on headaches caused due to excessive tension.

Inefficient evidence of positive results of 5-HTP

Although described to be highly effective in certain nature of treatment, the drug has not been able to show remarkable evidence of positive feedback on several trials.

There is no evidence of the drug on effectively treating Alzheimer’s disease or any of its symptoms. There is minimal evidence that the drug can prove to be fruitful to treat anxiety disorders; however, the evidence of not sufficient enough to come to any conclusion.

Apart from these, the drug is also unable to produce enough evidence in the treatment of the following:

  • Premenstrual dysphoric disorder
  • Premenstrual syndrome
  • Sleep disorders
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

In spite of all these inefficient evidence to prove its effectiveness on a number of disease or disorder treatment, 5-HTP has shown greater promise to reduce appetite addiction and hence can come in handy as a natural weight reducing supplement for obese people. However, the dosage should be initiated after proper consultation with a medical practitioner.

the Mediterranean Diet

beautful mediterranean woman Whenever we hear the word Mediterranean, the mind recalls of some countries like France, Greece and Spain, which are bathed by the Mediterranean Sea. It is easy to guess from the name “Mediterranean Diet” that it is a type of diet where you see influences of the mentioned country’s cuisine and culinary.

This particular diet became popular during the 1990’s. On November 2010, when UNESCO recommended this diet, its popularity increased manifold and gained ground in overseas countries as well. However, people from countries like Greece or Spain don’t consider it as a simple form of diet that keeps one healthy and fat free. To them, it is something that represents their culture, their food practices and everything from local wine to native activities.

The diet chart consists of simple, easy to prepare yet delicious dishes like Warm Pita, Spinach sauté with sprinkled lemon, Fragrant Couscous, etc. Native vegetables and other ingredients are used mostly to prepare these dishes and the use of imported ingredients is rare. Here you will learn in brief some interesting facts about the diet and its health benefits.

Why the Mediterranean Diet is Different

Any nutritionist or diet specialist will admit that one must consume all the necessary nutrients like protein, fat, minerals, carbohydrate, etc. every day to stay healthy and fit. This is where the diet differs from other traditional diet charts because it consists of food items, which are rich in all the mentioned nutrients.

Vegetables you use to prepare the dishes are sources of minerals and vitamins whereas the corn flour-made food items balance the need for carbohydrates. Sometimes dairy products like cheese or yogurt are also used to supply with a sufficient amount of proteins. The calorie you absorb through these foods is easy to burn as olive oil is always used for cooking the items. On the other hand, Mediterranean fruits like grapes, jujube, lemon and others detoxify your body and prevent fat accumulation. It is like a dual-purpose diet that cares for your nutritional needs while controlling obesity.

Mediterranean Diet and Weight Loss

When you talk about weight loss and think of practicing something new to make it fast, it is good always to gain a first-hand experience, instead of depending on others’ suggestions. One noticeable difference between this and the western diet form is that the diet is not rich in preservatives and animal fat. Rather more fresh vegetables and fruits are used to make the foods tasty yet healthy. Naturally, it can be said that if one follows the diet chart perfectly he or she can expect better result.

Now, it is time to check how this diet modifies the process of reducing fat.

• Replaces red meat based foods with healthy substitutes like poultry items and sea fish

• Maximize vegetable intake that keeps you fuller, gives energy and control fat as well.

• The food has less in salt and saturated fat, which are highly responsible for faster weight gaining

• Even snacks are made of low fat (sometimes zero fat) ingredients like unsalted nuts, dry fruits and general fruits.

• Their special red wine keeps you glowing while purifying your blood.

The Mediterranean Diet Pyramid

The Mediterranean diet pyramid describe the diet chart properly and this pyramid also explains which food items you should take and in what portions. To follow a diet chart properly, it is also important to know about the quantity of food taken, which is also mentioned in this pyramid.

The diet pyramid says that an adult should consume a half cup of prepared vegetables along with a full cup of leafy raw vegetables. Potatoes should not be consumed by more than 100 grams per day. If you want to lose weight, you must take at least 100 gram of dry beans, even if you forget to have anything else. Fruits like banana, orange, grapes (30 grams), one apple, and watermelon (200 grams) should be there too in your diet chart.

Don’t take dairy items like egg, milk, cheese and yogurt more than once in a week. In addition, you should be careful about the serving of red wine, as men should not take more than three glasses (small glasses) of wine. Women should stick to two small glasses only and not more.

Other Health Benefits

Research reports say that patients suffering from diseases like diabetes-type 2, high blood pressure, obesity, Alzheimer and cardiovascular diseases can benefit following the Mediterranean diet.

Health experts are also presuming that regular intake of Mediterranean food can also prevent the growth of cancerous diseases among individuals. However, one must follow the diet chart thoroughly and should combine different food items, according to their need to get best result.

The Benefits of Weight Loss

slim girlAccording to professionals at the Mayo Clinic, weight loss is basically the act of balancing the equation and calories play a vital role in the whole equation. Although some people believe that fad diets help to reduce body weight, it is actually calories that count when it comes to weight loss.

In this case weight loss involves burning down the calories consumed. However, it is important to note that by reducing the amount of calories we consume through beverages and foods and engaging in physical exercises, you will be working towards a healthy and balanced body weight.

Once the equation starts making sense to you, you will now be prepared to plan on how to achieve your weight loss goals. However, it is advisable that before embarking on any program towards this course, you should seek advice from your healthcare provider as doing it alone may lead to potential health problems.

Talking to family members and friends can be a wise idea as they can be very supportive in case you need help. Professionals are quick to suggest that you ensure that you plan well – devise ways on how to deal with the challenges that may occur as the process is not as easy as it sounds.

There are certain conditions that may occur due to your being overweight; in this case, it is for the doctor to suggest the most appropriate method of weight loss best fit for your personal situation. This may include medication or surgery. This therefore requires you and your doctor to venture into a thorough discussion singling out the probable benefits as well as the risks involved. But it is always good to remember that for you to achieve permanent results, you will need to make considerable changes to your feeding and physical lifestyles.

It actually doesn’t matter the amount of weight you want to shed, the principles applicable here are the same. This is critically important in determining the speed at which you lose your weight. If you follow some basic guidelines, you can greatly ensure the chance of success in weight loss without necessarily having to use any special books, medication or diet plans.

Thus our bodies’ weights reflect the amount of energy we let in terms of food and how much we are able to use in our daily activities. In most cases, energy is simply measured in terms of calories. In the event that your body weight remains the same, it means that your calorie consumption is also constant in terms of quantity. And if you find that you are gaining weight from time to time, it means that you are consuming more calories than what you are able to burn on a daily basis.

You are obviously responsible for the amount of food you eat daily and therefore controlling your calorie intake is something you can afford. In addition, it is our duty to control our energy output by focusing on the calories we are able to burn daily and this depends on a number of issues:
• The level of our physical activities
• Our BMR – basal metabolic rate, maintaining our body functions and the amount of calories we burn every hour in our lifetime.

In cases where individuals exhibit genetic factors and other related conditions, the BMR (resting metabolic rate can either be high or low. It is good to note that the amount of calories we burn while at rest is determined by our body weight. Thus, the more the amount of calories needed to maintain the body during the rest period, the more the weight of your body. In this case, if a person weighs 100 pounds, he or she requires very little food to constantly maintain the weight as compared to a person weighing 200 pounds.

Our work habits and lifestyle can also influence the amount of calories our bodies require daily. Thus, a person indulging in heavy physical activities burns larger amounts of calories daily compared to one who works in an office all day – sedentary lifestyle. So, if your job does not involve heavy physical activities, it is important that you participate in other physical activities such as exercise to help increase the metabolic rate of your body, hence burning more calories.

A woman between the age of 31 and 50 leading a less physical lifestyle roughly requires approximately 1,800 calories daily for to constantly maintain his or her normal body weight. On the other hand, a man in the same age bracket needs roughly 2,200 calories daily. And if one engages in moderate physical exercises – at least 3 times every week – then an additional 200 calories is required on a daily basis.

As such, to ensure that we stay healthy, there is the need for us to maintain a healthy body weight. Keeping off junk foods and dwelling only on healthy diets can greatly help us in this course. There are various types of diseases we can keep away from if only we put on weight we can be able to maintain and this requires individual commitment.
